Fredric Brandt, of Dr. Brandt Skincare, was found dead in his Florida home on Sunday, The Daily News reported – and he leaves behind a legacy. Brandt was the “dermatologist to the stars” and a pioneer in skincare research. A spokesperson for the Miami police department have confirmed that suicide, by hanging, was the cause of death. His publicist told the Associated Press that he had been dealing with depression for some time. Brandt was found by his housekeeper in his house in Coconut Grove, according to the MIami Herald. He was 65 years old and born in Newark, New Jersey. Brandt’s Many Accomplishments and Celebrity Fans Brandt’s dermatologist practice was based in both Miami and New York City. He was also the head of Dr. Brandt’s Dermatology Research Institute in Coral Gables, Florida – a leading dermatological research center in the U.S. Brandt’s obituary in the New York Times includes comments from his celebrity friends and clients. He was known as the “Baron of Botox,” and a pioneer in non-invasive cosmetic procedures. Dr. Peter Kopelson, a prominent Beverly Hills dermatologist, called him a “pioneer of fillers.” Allure’s Linda Wells mentioned his groundbreaking work as a dermatologist, and how his skincare/formulation research had been at the forefront of “altering our relationship to age and aging.” The magazine ran this obit on its blog. HIs long list of celebrity clients say they owe their good looks to Brandt. him. Madonna emailed a New York Times reporter last year and said: “If I have nice skin, I owe a lot to him.” He had also hosted “Ask Dr. Brandt,” a radio show on SiriusXM, where his guests included celebrities such as Gwyneth Paltrow and Kelly Ripa. Ripa tweeted when she heard the sad news: “My friend. You will be missed forever and in my heart even longer.” The Rumors There are rumors surrounding what may have led to his recent depression – Tina Fey’s Netflix series, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. But Brandt’s longtime publicist Jacquie Tractenberg told Page Six: “The show definitely deeply hurt him, he was being made fun of because of the way he looks. It is mean, and it was bullying. But the show was not the reason for his depression, and it was not the reason he would take his own life.” Dr. Brandt Skincare The dr. brandt skincare line was built on Brandt’s vision of developing products that could replicate the skincare benefits of in-office procedures, and that would deliver noticable anti-aging results. The products combine active botanicals with sophisticated delivery systems. The packaging is prestige, and high-tech. It features airless bottles and sleek tubes, and pens with dispensing tips. The colorful packaging has bold graphics, and uses blues, greens, silver and black mixed with metallic and translucent design elements.
